Bad experiences with Indian Airlines

I guess no airlines can be perfect, there will be instances where the airline will make mistakes and make customers mad. Here are some bad experiences with Indian Airlines:

I needed to take a Bangkok to Guwahati flight home. I am so used to booking flights online; however, you dont find any information about the flight in the website of Indian Airlines. Their website is the most user unfriendly website. It doesn't allow you to do anything online. Not only that, they don't update the websites and don't provide information on some routes like the BKK-GAU!! I took a flight from BKK-GAU July and September 2006 and the flight from GAU was almost 2 hours late and the Indian Airlines had no courtesy even to inform that they were late. All the people were waiting after the security clearance for the flight. At the end, we found out that they were waiting for some passengers who were late!!!

Pros of Indian Airlines

I flew with Indian in the Trivandrum-Mumbai sector recently. The aircraft was a brand new Airbus A 319. The food was good, especially for those who like South Indian fare. Muthoot Air Caterers have done a good job. The flight was able to leave right on time and reached Mumbai on time. And given the fact that the flight was 80% full, one should give full marks to the ground crew of Indian. Security check at Trivandrum airport is far better than Mumbai. Maybe, because they handle lesser passengers. Take off and landing was good. The overall experience was excellent in my opinion.

Another time I flew with Indian Airlines was a flight from Indore to Mumbai which was 20 mins late but the services was superb. The plane looked new and the food which was served was fine and nice. The flight attendents were well dressed and dedicated. Flight was short and enjoyable.

On return, I again flew Indian Airlines and I was even more satisfied this time. The flight was just on time and the check-in was also fast and efficient. I had excess luggage, which was accomodated with no extra charge. It was an early morning flight so breakfast was served. Food was hot and tasty and filling. The inflight service was fast and good. The airhostess were friendly and were able to control a jam full flight. I would fly Indian Airlines again definitely. My luggage came within minutes after the fligt landed. The planes on both ways were A320.

Indian Airlines Background

Indian Airlines is India's state owned primarily domestic airline, under the federal Union Ministry, Union of Civil Aviation and based in New Delhi. Its main bases are the international airports in Chennai, Mumbai, Koltata and New Delhi.

Indian Airlines operate closely with Air India, India's national flat carrier Alliance Air is a fully owned subsidiary of Indian Airlines. On 22nd February 2007, a Group of Ministers (GoM) has approved the merger of state-owned carriers, Air India and Indian (Indian Airlines Ltd).

The airline was set up under Air Corporations Act, 1953 with an initial capital of Rs.32 million and started operations on August 1, 1953. It was established after legislation came into force to nationalize the entire airline industry in India. Two new national airlines were to be formed along the same lines as happened in the UK with BOAC and BEA. Air India took over international routes and Indian Airlines Corporation (IAC) took over the domestic and regional routes.
